Monday Tips and Techniques: Nymph rigging

Good Monday morning to you!
Here's today's Monday fly fishing tip and technique for the last week in March 2012, wow is this year flying bye! While we're really looking forward to writing a weekly tips and techniques blog, it's going to be quite difficult. Our readers range from literally no fishing experience all the way to highly advanced but we will try our best!!

Let's start off with a tip on rigging your nymphs since Idylwidle Jimmy Leg's and wire worms are kicking butt on the Bow River right now (both available here).

Palometa Club Update

The first group of anglers have arrived in Punta Allen, Mexico and are embarking upon their second day of fishing as I write this. Mike took a snapshot for you with his iPad of the sunrise yesterday morning (enjoy your daily expected high of 8 today!!). The first night was an eventful one, a few too many margaritas were drunken and Pierce went missing for a bit. Luckily, he was found down by the beach with a man with a guitar, singing steelhead camp blues (something that permit guides don't fully understand).

While we have no pictures yet, two permit were landed on the first day of fishing! Updates will come as they arrive.

On Their Way!

We are very excited for the arrival of two new custom long and short sleeve shirts, arriving any day now!

The freshwater short sleeve version! CP logo is on the back shoulder.
Now, for those of you who have frequented the shop since the early 80's, you might want
to trade your old "Bow River Bullet" shirt in for one of these.

FIRE IN PUNTA ALLEN! Donations and Support Welcome

Last week there was a horrible fire in Punta Allen. A handful of buildings including the local bakery and the home of TPC guide, Julio, were completely lost in the fire. TPC guides, Julio and Tony, both have daughters who lost everything in the fire (including all their clothes and toys). The local baker, Santiago, has lost his entire business including ovens, driers, even cash in the register.

Armory is now ready!

The fly tying in preparation for fishing trips for Permit between now and the end of may are about done.
My carry box and two storage boxes are now full and I can't stuff any more in. Surely a few of these will actually be to their liking!

For those who have ridiculed my obsessive use of free time over the last month or two, indicating that I may have a neurological disorder, saying I have way too many bugs.....
REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

FISHING REPORTS

Bow River Report –February 29, 2012
Hopefully I’m not jinxing things by saying this, but if weather patterns continue as they have, there may be some cool stuff starting to happen on the river in the coming weeks.

During our last batch of warmer days there were a lot more midges around and now the sun is around longer and has more punch which should mean a little higher afternoon water temps.

Fishing has been OK with streamers. When the weather has been abnormally warm, the afternoon streamer fishing has been very good at times.

Nymphing has been extremely good at times with stonefly nymphs being the “go to”.

Although there hasn’t been any substantiated reports of consistent dry fly fishing, with stable weather we should start to see some midging fish in the coming weeks.
